This is how my Bernedoodle litter became so colorful. Part 3

This litter is a little smaller than my last ones but you could how they are taking after their parents!

The Parents

Dad

The dad is Gator. He is a black tri-color with tans spots and wavy hair. He has a brown nose and green eyes.

Mom

The mom is Kira and she presents as a blue Merle with wavy hair. She has a black nose, one brown and blue eye, and patches of black and brown on a gray coat. The Merle gene adds some complexity to why her coat is gray. Without that extra gene, she would have black fur on her body, a dark muzzle, and no tan points. She can have black dogs, tri-color dogs, red dogs (recessive), merles, and surprise brown dogs where her merle and black mix together to make brown.

Together

I love this parent combo together. They can make almost any kind of coat pattern except majority white. What Kira and Gator have in common is that they are furnished (thick eyebrows and mustache/beard), wavy hair, carry red recessive genes, tan points (even though Kira's don't show), and they are both F1Bs.

The Colorful Bernedoodle Puppies

Wavy Blue Merle

Dragon takes after his mom completely. They are both Blue Merles which gives them their gray appearance with black spots. The only difference between them is that Dragon can potentially have more white in his fur but it doesn't seem to be showing up much.

Wavy Brown Merle

Phoenix is almost a brown tri-color except she inherited the merle gene from her mom. This resulted in her normal black hair lightening to different shades of brown. Her tan points show up in more random spots. Her brown came from recessive brown genes passed down from both of her parents. He inherited her wavy hair from both of her parents. She is the first one of my puppies to inherit one blue and one brown eye from her mom!

Wavy Black and White

Sadie inherited a different mix from her parents which makes her bi-color! She inherited the black base coat from both of her parents but the special combo hides tan points. She is a hidden merle so that's why it's so important to DNA tests your dogs before breeding them. From her dad she got her white muzzle and got wavy hair from both of her parents.

These three puppies are the same coloring as three puppies from Kira's last litter. That was just pure coincidence. The thing about colorful Bernedoodles is that it's probably not a good idea to request a certain color ahead of time because you never know what you are going to get!
